How Sweet It Is // Babyshower

This weekend I was given the opportunity to play photographer for a sweet friend's coed baby shower. I have had our camera for almost two years now but my husband and I have been using it much more lately. He encourages (harasses) me daily to read more about the camera, play with the settings and explore the possibilities in Lightroom so I was very excited to take pictures this weekend.

The decor was A M A Z I N G and I have some beautiful friends so it definitely helps with the inspiration. The babyshower was so much fun. I love that coed showers are becoming popular. Fathers are so involved these days and it is important to celebrate with them.

The men all brought their favorite beers for the dad-to-be and the woman brought baby gifts. There was also cornhole, a taco bar and s'mores by the fire at night.

In our group of friends there are already 6 babies under the age of one. We are very excited to welcome another little girl into the group. Only two are boys so Gray is a little outnumbered but I have a feeling that as he gets older he will prefer it that way ;).

After dinner the girls watched the mom-to-be open presents and had a prayer time while the men stayed down by the fire. This was such a special time and I was reminded yet again of the miracle of life. I am so excited for my sweet friends who get to meet their baby girl in just a couple more weeks!

It was such a wonderful night. I am so thankful for this growing community that Ben, Gray and I are able to be a part of.

Little Adventurer

The women in my family threw us an adorable Baby shower in Texas a couple of weekends ago. It was so nice to be able to celebrate baby Gray with our dear friends and family.

The theme for the shower was Welcome to our World and I loved all of the little details. They filled the room  with maps, antique suitcases, binoculars and other cute items that a little adventurer would need in order to explore.

For the guest book they had the guests sign in the book Oh the Places You will Go by Dr. Seus. It will be so much fun to read this book to Grayson one day and to be able to show him the names of all of the people who love him.

The food was delicious. I especially loved the world cake pops and airplane cookies. I found the airplanes to be very fitting considering the fact that Ben is a pilot :)

The baby shower had such a great turnout. I knew that I wanted the shower to be coed. There are so many important men in our lives and it was special for us to have them there as well.

This was definitely a day that Ben and I will never forget! Thanks so much to the friends and family that came out to celebrate and the women in my family that made this day possible. Grayson is going to be one loved little boy!

Baby Shower

One of my good friends here is having a baby girl next month. We are all far from home this year and I wanted to make her baby shower special. I really enjoyed the planning process and thinking of all the little details. Of course pinterest and my love for antiques were a huge help with this process.  We also had a good friend, who happened to be a photographer, take some pictures of the day.

The pom-poms are hand made and I found an easy tutorial here
I think pom-poms are a great way to add color to a room without having to spend to much money. The banner was made by my friends mom and will be in the nursery above the baby's crib.

Most of the decor came from my vintage wedding a few years back. I love mason jars and think they add a lovely touch to any gathering. The flowers came from our local farmers market.

For the drinks we added fresh ingredients to the water and also served yummy mimosas. I then added fabric to the mason jars to add more color to the room.

The type writer added to the vintage theme. There was a welcome note to the guest telling them to fill out baby wishes for little molly to read when she is older. We had a lot of fun getting creative with the wishes.

I found a template for the baby wishes here

One of the other ways I added color to the room was with scrap fabric and twine. All you need to do is cut 1-2 in. fabric and tie it in a knot at the top of the string. My friend is also going to use this in the baby's room.

As a newly wed I still do not have many dishes to put on display. Because of this I needed to get creative. I was looking around my house and came across this vintage tool box and realized that it would be the perfect display for our muffins and cupcakes.

For the food we had a brunch theme.  There were muffins, a parfait, pigs in a blanket, sandwiches, veggies and dip, cupcakes, and a cheese danish. I found the cheese danish recipe here.

For the baby shower activity we made onesies. We had a group of very creative women and I think they turned out great. This activity was the ideal craft for our baby shower and the best part is that my friend was able to bring them home and little molly will be able to wear them someday. I found a tutorial here.

Another aspect of the decor were baby quotes around the room. My favorite quote was, "May you touch dragonflies and stars, may you dance with fairies and talk to the moon.. May you grow up with love and gracious hearts and people who care. Welcome to the world little one, its been waiting for you!"

I wanted to make a gift for my friend's baby shower and saw that she pinned this. I just made some minor changes. I purchased a frame from hobby lobby as well as the knobs. The chicken wire can be purchased at lowes. We then drilled holes in the bottom of the frame to add the knobs and used a staple gun to secure the chicken wire on the back. The hair clips and headband were purchased on etsy.

We had an amazing time celebrating my friend and her sweet baby to be. I cannot wait to welcome little molly into the world!
