A fall day

Yesterday was a great start to fall.
I headed off to the big city of Dothan *with two friends and one cute baby
Went to panera *where i ordered potato soup and a cranberry turkey sandwich
We then headed to hobby lobby *where I purchased a fall candle as well as supplies to make the wreath pictured above
The next stop was the mall *where I purchased some scents to make my house smell like pumpkin.. Because who doesn't love the smell of pumpkin!
target was our last stop (because it is the only place to get a Starbucks in town) *where i ordered my first pumpkin spice latte of the season
Yep.. It was a good day!

Have I mentioned that I love fall? My house is full of pumpkins and warm colors. The smell of sweet cinnamon pumpkin is in the air (thanks to my bath and body works plug in) and when I walk outside in the morning to take the dog out it is cool and crisp.
I think one could say I am content!

Friday's Letters

Dear Pumpkins, I love you. I love how you look in my home. I love how you symbolize fall and all of the wonderful things that come with it!

Dear Hubby, you are wonderful. I love how you give me a kiss on the cheek each morning before you get out of bed. I am so proud of you and your hard work in flight school. You are going to be a PILOT.  Dear Army, I have a love hate relationship with you. I do not like that you took my husband away for a year. However I now thank you for helping my husbands dreams come true by accepting him into flight school!

Dear beer and popcorn, you are delicous

Dear Warby Parker, thank you for my new glasses. I love your product. Only 95 dollars AND you give a pair to the poor. I am a fan!

Dear Friends, thank you for making my time here in Alabama so wonderful. I love having an army family! Margarita's again next week?

Baby Shower

One of my good friends here is having a baby girl next month. We are all far from home this year and I wanted to make her baby shower special. I really enjoyed the planning process and thinking of all the little details. Of course pinterest and my love for antiques were a huge help with this process.  We also had a good friend, who happened to be a photographer, take some pictures of the day.

The pom-poms are hand made and I found an easy tutorial here
I think pom-poms are a great way to add color to a room without having to spend to much money. The banner was made by my friends mom and will be in the nursery above the baby's crib.

Most of the decor came from my vintage wedding a few years back. I love mason jars and think they add a lovely touch to any gathering. The flowers came from our local farmers market.

For the drinks we added fresh ingredients to the water and also served yummy mimosas. I then added fabric to the mason jars to add more color to the room.

The type writer added to the vintage theme. There was a welcome note to the guest telling them to fill out baby wishes for little molly to read when she is older. We had a lot of fun getting creative with the wishes.

I found a template for the baby wishes here

One of the other ways I added color to the room was with scrap fabric and twine. All you need to do is cut 1-2 in. fabric and tie it in a knot at the top of the string. My friend is also going to use this in the baby's room.

As a newly wed I still do not have many dishes to put on display. Because of this I needed to get creative. I was looking around my house and came across this vintage tool box and realized that it would be the perfect display for our muffins and cupcakes.

For the food we had a brunch theme.  There were muffins, a parfait, pigs in a blanket, sandwiches, veggies and dip, cupcakes, and a cheese danish. I found the cheese danish recipe here

For the baby shower activity we made onesies. We had a group of very creative women and I think they turned out great. This activity was the ideal craft for our baby shower and the best part is that my friend was able to bring them home and little molly will be able to wear them someday. I found a tutorial here.

Another aspect of the decor were baby quotes around the room. My favorite quote was, "May you touch dragonflies and stars, may you dance with fairies and talk to the moon.. May you grow up with love and gracious hearts and people who care. Welcome to the world little one, its been waiting for you!"

I wanted to make a gift for my friend's baby shower and saw that she pinned this. I just made some minor changes. I purchased a frame from hobby lobby as well as the knobs. The chicken wire can be purchased at lowes. We then drilled holes in the bottom of the frame to add the knobs and used a staple gun to secure the chicken wire on the back. The hair clips and headband were purchased on etsy.

We had an amazing time celebrating my friend and her sweet baby to be. I cannot wait to welcome little molly into the world!

Lovely things...

That made my week

We got our very first iPad *this has opened up a whole new world to me!
Coffee dates, pizza in the afternoon with friends, and a day out by the pool with sangria *I think I am getting used to this life of the unemployed!
Shakespeare's haircut *The husband and I got ahold of a pair of scissors and cut Shakespeare's bangs. This at first was a disaster due to our grooming skills (which are lacking). However, we now have a much more adventurous pup since he can finally see again. The hubby and I are quite pleased to have a happier pup!

This bar * When my husband was deployed we always talked about items that we wanted in our future home. A bar always made it on the list. Now that he is back, we have been able to create a home for ourselves. Every time I now look at our very own bar, I am reminded of how far we have come!

Throwback Thursday: Engagement Photos

We were engaged and married within six weeks so needless to say it was a whirlwind, but we loved every second of it. During the engagement we went to pre-marital counseling and it was there that we found our photographer, Breanna Carin. I fell in love with her style and was so excited to work with her. The husband and I have always loved Julian, California. We love spending the afternoons hiking, looking at the old shops, and ending the day at a winery. We decided the perfect backdrop for our photo shoot would be at the winery we love, Menghini. It was a beautiful day and  I think we ended up with some amazing shots!
