Useful & Beautiful

Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful. -William Morris

We are moving in less than 2 months! This means that it is nearly time to begin packing. Now this is something that I dread ((I am sure I am not alone in this!)). Since packing is such a large task I am trying to get a head start.

My first mission: De-clutter!

At first this task sounded easy, but I am quickly realizing this is not the case.

Luckily, I found a great website that is going to help me with my goal!

Have you discovered any tips on getting rid of the clutter?

  1. good luck! I need to to do some MAJOR de-cluttering...I just got married so we are trying to work around each other and sometimes it gets a little overwhelming! Good luck with your move!

  3. We are de-cluttering here. The absolute best advice is to never ever ever leave a room without something. Before I get up to go where ever I look around and find things that need to go back where they belong, in the trash, donate box etc.

If you do this and get in the habit it makes it that much easier. Then I spend 10-20 minutes a day going through the house with a garbage bag.

  4. I purge all the time, clothes, crafting...really anything. I'm always re-organizing.

  5. Good luck! We just moved from CA to WI, so I'm a bit of a recent expert on packing. And, we ended leaving a LOT behind because we just didn't need the "stuff", you know? I'd say, start in ONE room, in ONE area and just go through everything. Keep, donate, sell. That's what we did and actually made almost $1K to go towards our move. I wish you lots of luck and hope that it's a relatively easy move.

  6. We're also moving (across the country) in a few months. I de-clutter, generally, with reckless abandon and throw everything away. I will give away bags of clothes to Goodwill without a second thought. We've lived in Alaska for 3 1/2 years. My thought is that if I haven't used something in 3 1/2 years, I don't need it. My current issue is that our house is big so we're able to spread out all the stuff we'd otherwise have to get rid of due to space issues. We're working on it this weekend!

    P.S. Following you now!
